PROJECTING A POSITIVE PROFESSIONAL IMAGE

Though first impressions are often based on a physical assessment, it does not take long before a person’s outward appearance can be overshadowed by a negative attitude. Professionalism is mastering all the elements of a positive image, including attitude, communication and confidence. There’s more to personal presence than an expensive suit—grooming, posture, poise and attitude all play important roles. Learning how to present yourself professionally helps give you a powerful edge over the competition.

Rationale for This Session:

Professionals in modern business circles understand that “success” requires insight as well as the right attitude. Knowing how to look and act like a professional is synonymous with being a professional.

Professionalism is directly related to each of the following:

  • How credible people think we are;
  • How confident we look;
  • How well we interact with co-workers;
  • How much value a displayed action/behaviour has on the decisions makers.

Session Outcomes:

  • Be a more confident and positive communicator;
  • Anticipate interpersonal and communication conflicts and learn to avoid them;
  • Understand different communication styles, including your own;
  • Monitor the four key facets of communication that you can control;
  • Know when to “talk back” and when to “back down”;
  • Stop the cycle of negative communications in the workplace;
  • Develop communication skills that will help foster cooperative workplace relationships;
  • Speak the language of confidence: verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
