PROFESSIONAL DRESS FOR SUCCESSFUL WOMEN

Have you ever felt that a bad hair day could make or break your mood, your confidence, and maybe even impact your productivity? Have you found yourself trying on three different outfits before you can confidently leave for work in the morning? And what about sorting through the company dress code guidelines? Do you know what “resort casual” and “elegant semi-formal” mean? The truth is, even though you know that image matters, finding and exhibiting the professional image that suits you, and your position, can be a challenge. If you would like to polish your professional presence and boost your confidence, this session is for you.

Rationale for this session:
Professional image is frequently the topic of workplace discussions at all levels of business. How does your company define semi-casual, casual, business-appropriate? How do you decide what to wear in order to best represent yourself and our company?

Along with being motivated, educated, trained, and skilled at the work you do, as a professional, you are constantly attentive to the image you are projecting to co-workers, higher-ups, and clients.

Whether or not you successfully assert your professional image is determined by a combination of skills, timing, attitude, communication skills, and social IQ. Although you can find a niche even if you lack one of these qualities, success will come easier if you understand how each part contributes to the overall impression. Confidence is a projection of how you feel about yourself, and one of the simplest ways to exude professionalism is through a professional image.

Session outcomes:

Participants in this session will learn to:
• Present themselves as a competent, confident professional;
• Understand the power of professional presence;
• Master tips and techniques to maximize image assets;
• Be aware of current styles and trends in professionalism for women;
• Understand what “professionalism” means in relation to appearance and attitude;
• Use courtesy to compliment appropriate attire and exude confidence;
• Understand the non-verbal message they are sending through their professional appearance;
• Use posture and stance to communicate more effectively;
• Give and receive compliments appropriately.

These goals will be met by examining:
• What is “performance appropriate”;
• Clothing style and “fit”;
• Managing body image;
• Powerful colour choices;
• Lasting hair “affairs”;
• Good “scents”: less is more;
• Flattering accessories (cell phones don’t count!);
• Behaviours that undermine a professional appearance;
• Dressing appropriately in “mixing” situations.
